Our mission
Live Coal transforms lives and neighborhoods through art, community development, and education. We ignite creativity by connecting students with artists through customized visual arts education and community-rooted programs, fostering artistic growth and cultural engagement.

Live Coal's staff and board of directors are a group of individuals dedicated to building a vibrant and strong organization that uplifts the people of Detroit and all those who engage with our mission.
Our history
Live Coal was founded by Detroit resident and artist, Yvette Rock. Rock is the founder and CEO of Rock Gallery of Art, LLC (formerly Live Coal Gallery, L.L.C.), a Detroit-based small business. Since the gallery was doing so much community-based work, Rock realized that creating a non-profit was the best model and structure for growing this work.
Accessibility
- Live Coal will provide free admission for Veterans and those on active duty with regards to special events/workshops.
- Live Coal will provide free/reduced admission for EBT cardholders with regards to special events/workshops.
- Live Coal will provide reduced admission for Seniors with regards to special events/workshops.
